NLWA Wise up to Waste

Van and trailer procedure

If you are intending to use a van, pick up or car with a trailer (over four foot in length) to dispose of your own household waste or items for reuse and recycling at the reuse and recycling centres (RRCs) you will need to pre-book with the site 24 hours in advance of your visit.

Residents taking vans, pick ups or trailers to the RRCs are permitted to make up to a maximum of five visits a year (between 1 April and 31 March).

Van and trailer procedure FAQs

How do you define a van?

A van is defined as a vehicle with no rear windows or no rear seats or a pick up truck.

I’ve used my allowance of five van visits per year at my local RRC, can I now book to take my van to another RRC in the area?

No, residents are allowed five van visits per year across all RRCs.  If you have used your allocation of trips for the year, you will not be allowed to enter any of our RRCs in a van, pick up truck or trailer until the next year (April to March).

Can I take my van to the Kings Road RRC and Gateway Road RRC?

Vans, pick ups and trailers are not accepted at the Kings Road or Gateway Road RRCs. You will need to visit another RRC if you intend to take these vehicles. Cars towing small single axle trailers less than four feet in length can be accepted at King's Road and Gateway Road RRCs.

I live in Enfield, can I book a van into your RRCs?

No, only residents of Barnet, Camden, Hackney, Haringey, Islington and Waltham Forest can book vans into the RRCs managed by North London Waste Authority.  Enfield Council run their RRC independently and have their own procedures in place for accepting vans at their site.  Please contact Enfield Council for more information.
